Arnold Schwarzenegger: Factfile and Net Worth
Arnold Schwarzenegger came to worldwide fame courtesy of his starring role as the ultra-efficient killing machine from the future “The Terminator”. Reprizing his role in follow-up Terminator and other movies, Swarzenegger was reputed to earn $15 Million per movie making him one of the wealthiest actors in the world. However, Arnie hardly needed the money as he was already a self-made millionaire before Hollywood fame beckoned.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, a small town in Austria, in 1947. The son of the local police chief, young Arnold had no intention of following in his father’s footsteps and wanted to be a movie star from an early age. Reading that many body building champions had gone on to successful acting careers, thirteen year old Arnold joined the local gym determined to become body building champion of the world and he was not to be denied.
At the age of eighteen, Schwarzenegger lifted the Junior Mr. Europe title and two years later became the youngest holder of the Mr. Universe title which he went on to win on three more occasions.
Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t spend all his time lifting weights as he also managed to complete his business studies when not attending body building competitions. In 1968, with the world body building titles under his belt and now twenty-one years old, it was time for Schwarzenegger to pursue his American dream.
Swarzenegger arrived in the States with $27,000 dollars in his pocket which was a tidy sum in those days. Small investments in real estate, at first unsuccessful, soon paid off and by the time he was twenty-five, Schwarzenegger was already a millionaire several times over.
From his earliest days in America, Arnold Schwarzenegger had pursued an acting career alongside his real estate ventures. Movies such as “Hercules in New York” and the documentary “Pumping Iron” had brought him to the attention of Hollywood producers and, in 1984, Schwarzenegger became an overnight superstar when starring in that year’s blockbuster success “The Terminator”. Now earning millions of dollars per movie, Schwarzenegger starred in hit action movies such as “The Running Man”, “Predator” and “Red Heat” but it was the comedy “Twins” with Danny DeVito playing his long-lost twin brother that really brought in the cash. DeVito and Schwarzenegger opted for shares of the movie’s profits instead of a straight salary. The movie went on to make over $200 million and Schwarzenegger each banked 13% of the profits.
Not content with success as a businessman and actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger moved into the political sphere when he announced his candidacy for Governor of California in 2003. As with his earlier ventures, Schwarzenegger succeeded and served two terms from 2003 to 2011, even considering becoming President of the USA at one point.
Although born in Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the quintessential America success story as hard work, drive and ambition saw him become a success in business, entertainment and politics.
It is currently estimated that Schwarzenegger is worth somewhere in the region of $300 million but he isn’t finished yet. Having returned to making movies, Schwarzenegger continues to add to his personal fortune with hit movies “The Last Stand”, “Escape Plan”, “The Expendables” and the latest in the “Terminator” series bringing in more money. Arnold Schwarzenegger may be worth $300 million at present but it continues to rise and rise and rise!
