Cameron Diaz: Factfile and Net Worth

When actress Cameron Diaz is contracted for a movie role, it’s going to cost the best part of $20 million for her services but such is her appeal to audiences, both male and female, that any movie she appears in is almost guaranteed financial success.

From the Beginning

Cameron Diaz (her real name) was born in San Diego, California in 1972. Acting was not in the family, her mother being an import/export agent and her father a foreman for an oil company. Diaz grew up in the Long Beach area and attended the local Polytechnic High School at the same time as rapper Snoop Dogg.

Diaz started modelling at the age of sixteen for the Elite Agency and traveled the world for the next few years before returning to the United States. In 1984, Diaz, then a 21 year old model with no acting experience, auditioned for, and surprisingly got, the lead female role in “The Mask” opposite Jim Carrey. It was only after she landed the part that Diaz enrolled for acting classes and the movie went on to be a worldwide success.

Hit After Hit

Not only did “The Mask” turn Cameron Diaz into an international sex symbol but also one of the most in-demand actresses of the time and well on the way to making her $120 million fortune as she went on to star in numerous box-office smashes.

1994   The Mask                                           $345 million

1997   My Best Friend’s Wedding             $300 million

1998   There’s Something About Mary    $370 million

2000   Charlie’s Angels                              $270 million

2002   Gangs of New York                         $195 million

2004   Shrek 2                                              $920 million

For the second of the Charley’s Angels’ series, “Charley’s Angels: Full Throttle”, Diaz was paid $20 million for reprizing her role becoming only the third actress ever to earn this amount and adding considerably to her growing fortune.

Up to 2015, box-office takings in the United States for Diaz’s movies had passed the $3 billion mark and worldwide the total is over $7 billion confirming the actress’s popularity as well as her talent.

Recognition

Having now appeared in over forty movies, including voicing Princess Fiona in the Shrek series, Cameron Diaz has been recognized for her work with four Golden Globe Award nominations and won the Film Critics Best Lead Actress Award for “There’s Something About Mary” and in 2009 her star was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Cameron Diaz, despite marrying in 2015, shows no signs of slowing down and more highly-paid movie roles are in the pipeline which will add considerably to her $120 million fortune.
