Hip hop is a competitive genre, and it takes real skill and talent to be able to make your name known. Big Sean had his fair share of drawbacks, but thanks to his natural talent and unrivalled determination, he is now known as one of the biggest names in American hip-hop.
From Humble Beginnings
Big Sean was born Sean Michael Anderson on March 25th, 1988. He was born to parents Myra and James Anderson. At the young age of 3 months, Sean and his parents moved to Detroit, Michigan where he would hone his skills and become the success he is today. He excelled in school and graduated from Cass Technical High School with a 3.7 GPA.
Ad a teen ager, he developed a strong relationship with Detroit hip-hop music station WHTD. He was able to earn his spot on the weekly schedule, where he would display his rapping skills and take part in friendly rap battles with other local talents. When he learned that Kanye West was going to do a radio interview at 102.7 FM in 2005, Sean quickly made his way to the studio to show off some freestyle. West was reluctant to hear it at first, but when Sean started busting his rhymes, all West could do was nod and smile. Sean and West parted ways in good faith, and West even took home Sean’s mix tape. Just two years later, Sean would be greeted with the news that West had signed him on to GOOD Music.
Fame and Net Worth
The release of his first official mix tape “Finally Famous: The Mixtape” got Big Sean a substantial amount of attention from other names in the industry as well as from fans all over the globe. Two mix tapes and a studio album later, Big Sean was able to bust himself into the big scene and captured the loyalty of a wide fan base across the US and other parts of the world.
Today, Big Sean’s net worth is estimated to be at $5 million US dollars thanks to his record deals, his hit singles, and his advertising contracts. Sean is the face for many brands, particularly shoes, of which he is a big fan. Big Sean describes himself as a sneaker head and enjoys collecting signature shoes and rare footwear. Sean hopes to open his own clothing brand in the near future.
